Blake Baxter a Detroit Techno music pioneer. one of the originators of the Detroit Techno music sound. As well as being known for his electronic music productions Blake Baxter is a spoken word vocalist and lyricist in the field of dance music. 

Blake was part of the first wave of House and Techno music DJs and producers from Detroit. Baxter started producing music in 1985. His first productions were recorded in Chicago, originally due for release on DJ International record label. However, his first official release was in 1987 on KMS Records. KMS 011 his four-track extended play 12-inch vinyl. The EP/12 music was reworked and remixed from some of his previous recorded productions due for release on DJ International. DJ international latter released some recordings in 1988-89. on DJ International and Westside Records Jack Masters Series compilations Vol 2, JACKLP 502 & Vol 4, JACKLP 504.

Back home in Detroit Blake was the man behind the funky hi-tech bass-line on Transmat Records MS 004 “Kaos” Juice Bar release. You can also hear Baxter’s influence on other early Transmat releases such as the Innovator album and also on the Emaron release. Baxter was also involved with four music productions that were released on the compilation album titled “Techno” (The New Dance Sound of Detroit) in 1988, which was the compilation album that introduced the Detroit Techno sound to the world; released on “Virgin 10 records” DIXG 75. Notably,

Blake also released music on the “Underground Resistance” record label in 1990 (Detroit) UR-006. The following year in (Berlin Germany) on “Tresor Records” in 1991 starting with Tre-02 release.  Ruffly Baxter has about sixteen cataloged releases on the Tresor record label which include three albums called (Dream Sequence) volume series one through three.  

Blake is currently releasing music from within his record label network “Mix Records,” Acid313, Afrodesitrax, Raw Data recordings, and Technological Audio Research, all labels mentioned are under the “Mix Media Music Group” umbrella. Mix Records was founded in 1990 by Blake Baxter.

Baxter was one of the first deejays to play a dedicated Chicago House and Techno music format in Detroit clubs during the mid-’80s. He was a resident DJ in downtown Detroit’s “Leland House Club” better known as “The City Club”, and for nearly five years a resident DJ at the “ Majestic Theater” on Friday night. In the early and mid-’90s. In Berlin, Blake was also a “Tresor” resident DJ. Blake Baxter “ The “Prince of Techno” affectionately nicknamed by his peers has remained consistent in his music productions and releases since his musical journey began in Detroit and continues thus far.

Blake has worked with a variety of producers over the years on musical collaborations and you can hear his unmistakable sound that comes out in every production. As a DJ Mr. Baxter continues to tour worldwide, he passionately plays to the audience and feeds off of the energy of the room taking them on a musical journey through the medium of sound spinning dance classics, techno, and house music. In a verifiable Detroit deejay fashion, Blake justifiably moves the crowd.
